This course provides an overview of biostatistical reasoning and modeling as it relates to oncology. The seven sections explore practical uses of statistics, common tests used in oncology, study design, statistical considerations in biomarker driven research, Bayesian and adaptive trial design, advanced statistical concepts and practical applications.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the importance of confidence intervals in describing uncertainty in study results
  • Interpret output from a survival analysis and competing risks analysis, including survival curves, median survival, hazard ratio, and cumulative incidence
  • Explain the difference between a prognostic and predictive biomarker
  • Examine the necessary criteria for implementation of a successful adaptive clinical trial
  • Critique systematic reviews to determine readiness for application of findings
