Although ABIM extended the decision to not require Practice Assessment, Patient Voice and Patient Safety in its MOC program through December 31, 2018, physicians can still earn MOC points for completing approved Practice Assessment activities.
ASCO offers physicians the opportunity to earn MOC points for quality improvement and patient safety activities on ASCO University and for selected meetings. See below for a list of activities that offer the ability to earn ABIM MOC points.
ABIM Requirements for MOC Submission:
- ABIM ID,
- First and last name (as reflected in the Diplomate record),
- Date of birth,
- Date of activity completion
Meeting-Based Practice Assessment Activities
Abstract presenters at the ASCO Quality of Care Symposium may now be eligible to receive Maintenance of Certification (MOC) practice assessment points from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). To be eligible, abstracts must be based on quality improvement (QI) activities that clearly follow the PDSA cycle, and include baseline and follow up data post intervention for a minimum of 25 patients. In addition, abstracts must also be accepted for oral or poster presentation.

*QOPI: In order to be eligible the practice must complete two (2) consecutive rounds (e.g. Spring 2016 and Fall 2016). The individual can only request ABIM MOC Part IV for one time for each round in a submission year (e.g. Spring 2016 and Fall 2016 for 2016 submission is eligible; Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 is not eligible for the same individual if they already submitted for Spring 2016 and Fall 2016).
**QOPI Certificate Program: In order to be eligible the practice must have achieved certification or re-certification within the year of submission requests for ABIM MOC Part IV. ASCO can only offer ABIM MOC Part IV points for practices that certified in 2016 and forward.
