This is a case-based activity that includes discussion of a 16 year old young man who presents with a four to five month history of pain in right extremity and reports swelling. Along with the patient case, there is a discussion board on ASCO Connection, where users can post comments/questions to each other and to the faculty. At the end of this course you should be able to:
1. Recognize the rarity of osteosarcoma and how patients with osteosarcoma typically present.
2. Apply the standard treatment of osteosarcoma including local control and chemotherapy.
3. Analyze the prognostic value of histological response to neo-adjuvant chemotherapy and the challenges in modifying therapy based on these results.
4. Consider the challenges in treating patients with osteosarcoma who present with metastatic disease.
